The Lauren Ramsay Spirit Award was created in 2001 by the Cromwell Chill Soccer Club to honor the memory of Lauren Ramsay. Lauren touched many of our Club members through her participation as a player and a referee.
In today’s world of sports, there is often too much emphasis placed on winning and losing and not the joy of the game. To that end, Lauren was a throw back to the days of old when sports were played for the fun and thrill of competition. Lauren may not have been the best soccer player to participate in the Cromwell Chill program, but she was one of the hardest workers. She showed remarkable improvement in her skills over the course of her Chill career and always had a positive attitude while managing to insure that she and her teammates had the most fun.
The Lauren Ramsay Spirit Award will be presented annually to a U14 girl and boy that have demonstrated the most improvement over the course of their Chill career along with displaying a love and joy for playing the game of soccer. The player should exhibit a positive attitude, be a pleasure to work with, and be well respected by their teammates.
The coaching staff for each U14 team will select the player that they feel has best exhibited the criteria detailed above. A candidate from each team playing at the U14 level should be identified.
The presentation of the Lauren Ramsay Spirit Award will be made each season by the respective head coach. Each recipient will receive an individual award and the Club will have a plaque displayed with all past recipients of this award.
